Warhammer 40k Tyranids Datasheets Showcases the Great Might of the Leviathan Hive Fleet

Warhammer 40k Tyranids Datasheets are the first full indexes revealed for the 10th Edition of Warhammer 40k, and they look frightening.

The preorders for the 10th Edition Starter Kit, the Leviathan Box open tomorrow, on June 10th, with the boxes themselves becoming available two weeks from tomorrow, on June 24th. That Saturday marks the beginning of #New40k, the new edition of the most popular table top wargame on the planet. With this little time left, Games Workshop is ought to start releasing the Datasheets for each of the factions other than the units available in the Leviathan Box – and luckily for us, they already started with the full reveal of the Tyranids Datasheets!

The best of the Warhammer 40k Tyranids Datasheets

While we don’t have time to go over all 94 pages of the Tyranids datasheets, ESTNN have picked some of the best ones showcased in the index – you can expect a showcase of all of the faction datasheets coming up until next Thursday (if the leaks can be trusted, but so far, they have been on point).

Stratagems of the Warhammer 40k Tyranids Datasheets

While we already knew about the Army Rules – Synapse and the Shadow in the Warp – and the Hyper Adaptations Detachment Rule thanks to the Faction Focus released by Games Workshop, we finally got all the Stratagems besides Endless Swarm, which was revealed in the aforementioned Faction Focus:

  • Rapid Regeneration gives a 6+ Feel No Pain (or a 5+ if our unit is within Synapse Range) to one Tyranid unit that’s being targeted by the enemy for 1 CP,
  • For 2 CP, Adrenal Surge gives a 5+ Critical Hit to up to two Tyranid unit in the Fight phase, making even Hormagaunts a scary force,
  • Death Frenzy gives the Fight on Death ability to a Tyranid unit in melee, provided you can roll enough 4+’s to keep the whole squad alive,
  • Overrun doubles the Consolidation move of a Tyranid unit, or let’s them make a 6” Move if they are in Synapse Range and not in Engagement Range of any enemies for 1 CP,
  • While Synaptic Insights lets a unit adapt once more, using two Hyper Adaptations from the Detachment Rule for a turn – all for 1 CP.

These Stratagems look really strong, and can find a place in different Tyranid builds – I for one can’t wait to see Synaptic Insights and Adrenal Surge in a monster mash army!

The most interesting unit cards of the Warhammer 40k Tyranids Datasheets

We already saw the datasheets of units such as the new Screamer-Killer, the Barbgaunts or the Neurotyrant, but the Tyranid’s numbers are endless – as are their datasheets for the most part. Just look at one of their designated Leaders, the Winged Hive Tyrant, the Flying variant of the Hive Tyrant. While this monstrosity can’t lead units directly as it lacks the needed keyword, it can still buff those around it thanks to the Will of the Hive Mind ability, which lets you use a Stratagem for free on a unit within 12” within it. Thanks to his Deep Strike ability and it’s 12” Move, it can be where it’s needed, and while the Winged Hive Tyrant only has 9 Toughness, it’s 2+ Save and 4+ Invulnerable Save should be able to keep it safe,

It can act as a vanguard unit as well, as it has access to great weapons in both Melee and Ranged: if you need to clear a blob of enemy infantry, you can use the Stranglethorn cannon, or arm it with a Heavy venom cannon if you need to get through vehicles. The Winged Hive Tyrant follows the same principle in Melee thanks to it’s Monstrous bonesword and lash whip, which can be swapped for monstrous scything talons for the extra volume of attack. It’s Paroxysm ability also lets it deal with its targets clapbacks more easily, as it can deny attacks from enemies in the Fight phase.

Other than the Termagants, the Hormagaunts and the new Neurogaunts, one of the most common unit one can find in a swarm of Tyranids is the Tyranid Warriors. Both versions of the Warriors received a datasheet in the reveal, meaning that the ones armed with melee bio-weapons will be a different unit from the ones with only the melee weapons.

The ranged version of the Tyranid Warriors will have access to 5 different wargear options, from Barbed stranglers useful for clearing big enemy units to Venom cannons, that can be used to get through the thickest armour plates. The ranged Warriors also have the Adaptable Predators, which let’s them shoot and charge after Falling Back.

The melee Tyranid Warriors will only have the Twin-Linked Bio-weapons, which pack a punch in melee, and they can also adapt further in the Fight phase, as they can choose to reroll 1’s to Hit or to Save – yes, they can choose in your opponents Fight phase as well as your own.

Of course, the Tyranids are known for their Psychic powers, and as the Neurotyrant is a completely new model, other bugs had to pave the way for them – the premier one being the Zoanthropes. These psychic monstrosities return for the 10th Edition of Warhammer 40k, and are capable of dealing heavy damage to enemies at range. They have a psychic power called Warp Blast, which either has the Lethal Hits or the Blast keywords, depending on which profile you use – obviously, the former is against bigger targets, while the latter is against units with some volume.

The Zonathropes are lead by a Neurothrope, and while these Psykers are not meant for close-quarters combat, they can disrupt their enemies thanks to the Neurothrope’s Spirit Leech ability, which deals D3 Mortals to any enemy close to the Zoanthropes, while healing the unit by D3. They also give out 6+ Invulnerable Saves, so they make a nice pair with any Tyranid, big or small.

There are an awful lot of Tyranid units showcased – you can find all the datasheets here. Don’t forget to follow ESTNN for the news regarding the 10th Edition of Warhammer 40k, as the Space Marine Datasheets are soon to be revealed!
